How to play Four-In-A-Row

1. 1Sign in, open the lobby and press Play to face a live opponent, or take a free practice game against the bot.
2. 2On your turn, choose a column and drop your disc into it.
3. 3The disc falls to the lowest empty cell in that column, so the column fills from the bottom up.
4. 4Players alternate turns. You may only drop into a column that is not already full.
5. 5Line up four of your discs — horizontally, vertically or diagonally — to win.

Rules

• The board is 7 columns wide and 6 rows tall.
• A disc always falls to the lowest empty cell of the chosen column; discs never move once placed.
• A full column accepts no more discs, so losing access to a column is permanent.
• The first player to align four of their own discs in a straight line wins — in any row, in any column, or along either diagonal.
• If all 42 cells are filled with no four-in-a-row, the game is a draw.

• Four in a row wins the game outright.
• A completely full board with no line is a draw.
• Ranked results move your per-game rating and your trophy ladder for this game.

Strategy and tips for Four-In-A-Row

• Take the centre column first. It sits inside more potential four-lines than any other column, so it is the strongest square on the board.
• Always answer the disc underneath a threat. Blocking the immediate vertical line your opponent is building is the move you cannot skip.
• Build two threats at once rather than one. A single threat is easy to block; two threats in different columns cannot both be answered.
• Watch the diagonals. Most beginner losses come from a diagonal that nobody was watching because both players were scanning rows and columns.
• Plan your own stack. Because discs fall to the bottom, three discs you control in a column are only one drop away from a win, and your opponent can see it coming.

Four-In-A-Row tests foresight and threat construction with perfect information — it is a pure planning game where a two-move lead is usually the difference.

What happens if the board fills up?

The game is a draw. There is no tiebreak; a full board with no four in a row is recorded as a draw.

Yes. There is a bot opponent, and those games are unrated — they do not change your Elo or trophies.

Is it free to play?

Yes. Nothing is wagered — ranked results move your per-game Elo rating and your trophy ladder instead.
